Habitat
The freshwater lakes and canals of Xochimilco, near Mexico City.
Diet
Worms, small fish, insects and tiny crustaceans.
Size
Around 15–30 cm long — smaller than a school ruler stretched out.
Lifespan
Usually 10–15 years.
IUCN Status
Critically Endangered
Very few axolotls are left in the wild because of pollution and invasive fish.
